The worst nightmare is using your pc and then it crashes all of a sudden. This might result in a blue screen of death, which is also called stop code error.

The error is called “Unexpected Store Exception.” This can be a great issue, especially if you don’t know what to do. This error also is not associated with Microsoft Store.

There’s no doubt that the Windows 10 update came with useful features. However, the downsides are there, too, as expected. A great example is the “unexpected store exception.”

Fortunately, you can easily fix this issue alone using some simple suggestions. In this article, we are going to analyze how you can correct this error.

1. Check the health of the Hard Disk

Sometimes when your hard driver has issues, this error may appear. You might have some useful files in the wrong location of your hard drive.

Besides that, if your hard drive is dying, you might also experience this issue. You can solve hard drive issues by running a health diagnostic test.

A third-party tool will be handy in helping you find out more about the problem.

Below are the steps to follow.

  • Download Crystal Disk info. This is a tool that reveals the status of your hard drive. After downloading it, double-click and follow installation guidelines on your screen
  • Launch it on your main Window to read the condition of your hard drive
  • If your hard drive has no issues, it will give a status of “good,” but if it has problems, it will say “bad.”
  • If this tool reveals that your hard drive is bad, then that is the cause of your problems. If the status report is good, it means that something else might be the reason behind this error.

Let’s find out more ways to solve “unexpected store exception error” if this doesn’t work.

2. Confirm if your drivers have issues

  10. Press “Windows key + X” and choose “Device manager” to invoke the pop-up of your start menu.
  11. Go to the “Sound video and game controllers” and right-click on IDT High Definition Audio” or “Conexant Smart Audio.”
  12. From the list, press on Uninstall to check the “Delete the driver software for the device.”
  13. You can now click on “Windows key + X again and choose “Programs and Features.”
  14. Uninstall everything related to “Conexant/IDT and Dolby “visible from the list of apps.

3. Update your Display Drivers

Start your PC in a safe mode then delete all the display drivers you have installed. After restarting your PC, default display drivers will be installed automatically after detecting the display hardware.

After booting your PC in a safe mode, select the “Device Manager” by right-clicking on the Windows Key.

You can also launch the device manager by clicking on Windows +R. This will start the application, and then you can type “devmgmt.msc.”

When you get to the device manager, expand the “Display adapters section” and right-click on the display hardware.

Choose “Uninstall device.” This will prompt the Windows to pop up a dialogue box.

Confirm your actions by pressing OK then proceed

Restart your PC and launch the search bar of your start menu by clicking the button Windows + S.

Type “Windows update” on the dialogue box then click on the search result that appears first.

Click the button which says, “Check for updates” from the update settings. This will cause the Windows to start checking for available updates then install them.

Confirm if the problem is fixed after the update. If not, below is an alternative method.

4. Download the latest drivers manually

While Windows updates always strive to give your hardware the latest drivers, it doesn’t imply that the drivers are still the latest ones. Besides the Windows update, you can go to the manufacturer’s website of your graphics card and manually download the latest drivers.

In case the latest drivers don’t end this issue, consider downloading and installing older drivers. The manufacturers list all drivers according to their dates.

You can follow the instructions below to install them manually successfully.

  1. Open the Device Manager.
  2. Right-click on the driver and choose “Update Driver.”
  3. There’s a new Window that will appear asking you whether to manually or automatically update the driver.
  4. Choose the option, “Browse my computer for driver software.”
  5. Find your downloaded drivers by browsing through the folders.
  6. Select the required drivers and Windows will install them
  7. Confirm whether the problem is gone by restarting your computer.

Do not forget to check the devices linked to your PC through the device manager and update each of them.

One of the drivers might be the reason why you are facing this error. Before moving to the next option, it is crucial to ensure that all drivers are appropriately configured.

5. Uninstall an Antivirus Program

An antivirus program might cause the issue of “Unexpected Store Exception.” You might feel a little nervous about the safety of your PC after uninstalling an Antivirus Program.

This shouldn’t worry you because Windows 10 has a powerful virus protection software “Microsoft Defender” that can still guard your PC.

Below are crucial steps to help you uninstall the AntiVirus Program.

  1. Click on “Windows Key + X” for the start button to appear.
  2. From the list that appears, choose “Control panel.”
  3. You will see a section with the name “Programs” from the control panel.
  4. It is in this section that you will also see the number of programs installed on your PC.
  5. From that list, proceed and find the Anti Virus Program. Even if you have more than one version of the Anti Virus Program, uninstall all of them.
  6. You can do this by selecting one of them and right-click then press on “Uninstall.” It will ask you whether you would like to go on to uninstall. Select “Yes.”
  7. Complete the uninstallation process by following the steps on your screen.
  8. Check whether you still experience the problem by restarting your computer.

This solution might help you eliminate the issue. However, if you still experience it, the following solution might help.

6. Turn off Fast Startup

Windows 10 has a fast boot or Fast Startup that works like the hybrid sleep modes of the previous Windows versions. It merges with the hibernate feature and elements of cold shutdown.

Just like a cold boot, when you shut down your PC, Windows closes all users’ applications and logs. This is the state that Windows is in when it has been freshly booted.

Despite this, the system session is still running while the kernel is loaded up. The device drivers will then get a notification from the Windows to get ready for hibernation.

This saves the existing system to hibernation then turns the computer off. If you start your PC again, Windows won’t need to reload a kernel, drivers, or the system state.

It will only refresh the RAM with the image loaded in the hibernation file and send you to the startup screen.

With this feature, your Windows will boot faster without waiting for the traditional time.

The only drawback of this feature is that it can cause issues like failing to load the required drivers properly.

If this feature doesn’t reload the drivers, some drivers may not be loaded, causing you to experience issues like “unexpected store exception.”

Here’s what you need to do.

  1. Launch the Run application by clicking on “Windows +R.”
  2. Type “Control panel” in the dialogue box then press Enter. This will open the Control panel of your PC.
  3. On the Control panel, press on Power Options then click on “Choose what power buttons do” from the left side of your computer screen.
  4. An option that needs administrative privileges called “Change Settings that are currently unavailable” will appear. Click on it.
  5. Head to your screen’s bottom then uncheck the box written, “Turn on fast startup”
  6. Save the changes then press Exit.

Restart your computer then confirm if the issue is gone.

7. Turn off sleep mode

Sometimes disabling the sleep mode can fix the issue of ‘unexpected store exception”. This happens if the error was a result of saving predefined data or when your computer is sleeping.

When you disable the sleeping mode entirely, this error can resolve the issue. Sometimes it may not work, in which case, consider reverting the changes.

Below is how you can turn off the sleep mode.

  1. Go to the bottom right corner on your screen and right-click on the battery icon.
  2. Press on “Power Options.” Should you fail to see this option, click on “Windows + S so that you can select “Choose a power plan,” then press on a relevant result.
  3. You will get many options on the Window. Press “Change plan settings” visible in front of the power plan.
  4. You will see an option “put the computer to sleep” on that Window.
  5. Set the option as “Never” in both conditions, that is when plugged in and on battery.
  6. Press on Save changes then exit.
  7. You can now reboot your PC and check if this solves the issue.

8. Run the system file checker

The System File Checker or SFC is a vital utility existing in Microsoft Windows. Through this service, you can scan your computer to find out if there are any corrupt files in the operating system.

With this tool, you can detect whether your PC is experiencing problems due to corrupt files in Windows. The SFC can, therefore, solve this issue. Below are some responses you will get after running the SFC.

“Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and repaired them.”

“Windows didn’t find any integrity violations.”

Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.”

Follow the procedure below to run the system file checker.

  1. Click on Windows + R so that you can launch the Run application
  2. On the dialogue box, type the characters “taskmgr” then press Enter. This will start the task manager of your computer.
  3. Go to the top left side of your computer’s Window and click the File option. Select “Run new task” from the available list.
  4. You can then type “Powershell” inside the dialogue box. Check the below that says, “Create this task with administrative privileges.”
  5. In the Windows Powershell, type the characters “SFC/scannow” and press Enter. Your computer will start scanning the entire Windows files to check for any corrupt phases.

Should you experience an error like your Windows says that it encountered some mistakes but wasn’t able to fix them, type the following characters in the Powershell “DISM/Online/Cleanup-Image/RestoreHealth.”

Doing this downloads new files from the Windows update server as it replaces the corrupt ones. This may take some time depending on the speed of your internet connection. Don’t be tempted to cancel it.

You can then restart your computer to see if this resolved the problem.

Summing It Up

Unexpected store exception error can be a challenge when your computer crashes. You cannot perform any task when this error occurs. One of the most common causes of this issue is missing or corrupt files.

It is therefore advisable to perform a scan to restore the missing files immediately when you encounter this problem. Otherwise, if this doesn’t work, you can proceed to other methods discussed above.

We hope you will be able to solve this problem with one of the above-recommended solutions.
